Red Cedar Incident – Entries 28, 29, and 30

Entry 28: Red Cedar Forest – August 19th, 2023 – 9:10 PM

We made it! All three of us were in varying stages of exhaustion. Maisel was leaning against a tree, I was sitting cross-legged, and Murlocke was sprawled out on his back.

I realized I also had a headache; a dull pain thudded against the back of my skull. No doubt an aftereffect of the angler attempting to consume our minds.

Entry 29: Red Cedar Forest – August 19th, 2023 – 9:27 PM

Maisel and I found a small boulder. All we needed to do was roll it in front of the angler’s entrance, and the Red Cedar Incident would be case closed.

At least a soccer ball is the only thing that went missing…

Maisel laughed.

BOINK! The soccer ball flew out of the entrance and bounced off Maisel’s head.

Murlocke was trying not to laugh.

Maisel rubbed her cheek and pouted.1

Despite Maisel’s bruised pride, she gave me a hand and we blocked the hole at the bottom of the tree.

RED CEDAR INCIDENT — CLOSED

Entry 30: Clubhouse – August 22nd, 2023 – 2:30 PM

Earlier today, I walked out to the location in the red cedar forest where the angler tree was. I wanted to ensure that the rock we rolled over to cover the entrance was still in place. It looks like whatever we said worked. The tree was gone, and in its place, a pond. I haven’t had time to investigate, but if I had to guess, that “pond” is probably several stories deep.

I wonder where the angler decided to go. I know it tried to eat us alive, but I can’t help but hope it found somewhere it can eat its prey in peace. After all, is it really that different from another predator? A bear needs to eat salmon, and a hawk needs to eat mice. It’s just the way of the world.

Before leaving, I took one last look into the pond and could have sworn I saw a flicker of gold at the bottom.
